SEPTEMBER ROUGH-STUFF CAMPING IN MID-WALES.

The morning was cold, but thankfully again dry, but also windy. We left the mighty peak in all its glory, looking back now and again as the treacherous bog was traversed to the safety of the ‘green lawn’, a stretch of grass near the forest track. After brewing up coffee it was a quick ride down off the mountain. The spectacular Irfon valley was in front of us, mid-week cycling certainly had its benefits and the traffic free cycle ride was truly sublime. The tiny village of Abergwesyn was our next stop as the road led us in the sun to Beulah where stocked up on supplies. The route toward the Rhos Saith Maen pass is truly a beautiful ascent, starting in farmland then continuing up into the more remote pine covered track that led out on to the open mountain. The ‘rutland’ track over the mountain was quite easily navigated this year due to the dry weather. After a couple of miles of trudging in the late afternoon the asphalt road was met. It was then a pleasant descent back to our start in Llanwrthwl where we celebrated the knuckleheads epic ride!
