ROUGH-STUFF CAMPING IN WILD MID-WALES - Day 127.08.11
It was the August holiday weekend and there was a camping trip planned. From Llanwrtyd Wells the ride took us to Abergwesyn where a Red Kite circling high in the sky welcomed us to the Cambrian mountains. Rain had been forecast but the Brothers decided to carry on regardless with our Carradry panniers keeping our kit dry. Nick was riding his new Aravis touring bike. Our route carried on through the Irfon valley where, at it's head, is the infamous 'Devil's Staircase' with it's fantastic twisty steep climb. After descending to the north of the Tywi valley the forest track toward Moel Prysgau was taken. Rain showers were experienced on the climb, however, it remained dry for the Brothers to put up their tents and light the BBQ's for another one of our famous feasts! As we ate, the dramatic twin cairns of the Drygarn Fawr mountain could be seen some 2 miles away. The rain started again and the meal was finished in the drizzle, before retiring to our tents.
