Day 1
Day 1 ~ Day
2 ~ Day 3
A hot
July evening beckoned us into the heart of the mountains. We cycled out from
Rhayader along the Elan Valley. It was 18:00, a Friday, and the sun shone
through the trees and danced on the still, deep, waters of the reservoirs.
We reached the Claerwen dam, from here we rode the rough track that wound it's
way spectacularly around the massive Claerwen reservoir. After a few hours of awesome
riding it was nearing 20:00 and darkness was due in a hour and half and so
we started to look for a campsite. After a few miles of looking on the hillside
our eyes cast downwards to the shore of the lake, a natural beach of gravel
was there to be taken. It was a perfect spot, the water was like glass. The
insects were annoying but we were soon cooking our food and burning incense
and getting ready to settle down to sleep in this, the remotest place in Wales!!
