Cefn Ila, pre-1920.
A photo of Cefn taken by Henry Dunning of Usk when it was still a private house. Henry Dunning was a professional photographer during the latter part of the 19th century and the early part of the 20th century. Born in Great Boughton, Cheshire in 1848, Dunning came to live in Usk with his wife and daughter when he was in his late 30's/early 40's and continued working as a photographer working from his home at 12, Bridge Street. Henry's daughter, Emily, helped out with the family business as 'photographers assistant'. Henry passed away on the 6th February 1920 aged 71.
It is known that Henry Dunning was commissioned to produce a set of photographs for an inquiry into a dispute over the condition of the house in 1898 when the house was leased to was leased to Henry William Hartmann so this photo may be from that collection.
